Ever since I first laid eyes on a photograph of the Grande Arche at La Defense in(-ish) Paris I have wanted to go. It is even one of the items on my Paris Bucket List. It is a mesmerizing structure. Aside from the pure aesthetic value I see in it, I love the blend of exacting precision and absolute absurdity it contains. It’s a modern, sleek, tightly-engineered office building like many around the world and even several within a block of it BUT it is simultaneously a giant empty box with a swiss-cheese tarp hanging in the middle. WTF.
I got to spend yesterday morning finally confronting the Grande Arche in person. Neither pictures I had seen nor the ones I took do it justice but here mine are nevertheless.
